Parent Management Training

Parenting a child who is anxious, avoidant, oppositional, or easily overwhelmed can feel exhausting. You may find yourself negotiating every request, bracing for the next meltdown, or feeling unsure how to set limits without making things worse.

Parent Management Training (PMT) is an evidence‑based, practical approach that helps parents create predictable structure, reduce conflict, and support their child’s emotional and behavioral growth. It’s not about blame — it’s about giving you tools that actually work in the moments that matter most.

Why PMT?

Kids struggle for many reasons — not because they’re “bad” or “defiant,” but because:
•     Their nervous system is overwhelmed
•     Expectations feel unclear or unpredictable
•     Avoidance has been unintentionally reinforced
•     Power struggles have become part of the routine
•     They need more structure before individual therapy can be effective

PMT helps shift these patterns in a way that is supportive, developmentally appropriate, and grounded in research.

PMT is especially effective for:

•     Oppositional or defiant behavior
•     Power struggles and refusal
•     Emotional outbursts or shutdowns
•     Anxiety‑driven avoidance
•     School refusal
•     Difficulty following routines
•     Sibling conflict
•     Parent–child relational strain

What PMT Looks Like

In PMT, I work directly with you, the parent — not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because you are the most powerful agent of change in your child’s life.

Together, we focus on:
•     Creating predictable routines and expectations
•     Reducing unintentional reinforcement of avoidance or escalation
•     Using calm, consistent limit‑setting
•     Increasing positive reinforcement and connection
•     Responding effectively to oppositional behavior
•     Managing your own stress in high‑intensity moments
•     Building a home environment where your child can succeed

You’ll leave each session with clear, actionable strategies to use between meetings.

Ready to Get Started?

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to help your child, PMT can give you the structure and confidence you need.
You don’t have to navigate this alone — and meaningful change is absolutely possible.
