Pause and ask yourself:
What do I value?

Values aren’t something you complete or check off a to-do list. They guide what you prioritize — including what you say yes and no to.

When your days start to reflect your values, you create the conditions for positive emotions to show up, both now and over time.

A parent reached out to me for a private evaluation, and my first question was: “Have you tried requesting testing through the school?”

They were surprised — they didn’t know that was an option. And they’re not alone. Many families don’t realize they have this right.

✅ You don’t need proof.
If your child is consistently struggling — with reading, focusing, regulating emotions, or keeping up academically — that’s reason enough to request an evaluation.

✅ Schools must respond.
Once you submit a written request, the school is legally required to follow a timeline for consent and evaluation.

✅ Evaluations unlock support.
Results can open the door to accommodations, interventions, or services through an IEP or 504 Plan.

✅ Private evaluations offer deeper insight.
While school testing focuses primarily on eligibility for services, a comprehensive private evaluation can go further — helping clarify whether challenges are related to a learning disability, ADHD, or emotional and behavioral conditions such as anxiety or mood disorders.

This is where I can help. My assessments are designed to provide a full picture of a child’s cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Dialectics is about holding more than one truth at the same time. It’s the practice of searching for another way of looking at a situation — even (and especially) when one perspective feels more obvious or “right.”

In a way, optical illusions give us a chance to practice this skill. They ask us to slow down, stay curious, and look beyond the first thing we see.

And this isn’t just a neat brain trick — it’s an essential skill in real life. In a world that often pushes us toward division and black-and-white thinking, dialectics helps us:

For a lot of us, we learned that being “good” was the safest way to avoid rejection and feel secure.

“Good” often meant agreeable.
Easygoing.
Self-sacrificing.
The kind of person who keeps everyone else comfortable—even when it comes at their own expense.

But people-pleasing isn’t the same as being kind.
It’s often rooted in fear:
Fear of disappointing others.
Fear of conflict.
Fear of not being liked—or loved.

Unlearning it means letting yourself take up space.
It means setting boundaries and knowing that someone else’s discomfort doesn’t make you a bad person.

It’s uncomfortable at first.
But it’s also where self-respect, connection, and real peace begin.

The group is structured as a standard program, with a 6 month commitment requirement to complete one full cycle (additional cycles are possible if necessary). Emotion Regulation is the next module!

Patients are expected to schedule an intake appointment prior to starting to ensure it’s a good fit. This is a 45 minute appointment billed at $275. I am able to consult with individual therapists to provide collaborative care. Sliding scale is available and based on need. INN with Aetna insurance only and OON for all other insurances.

The group is structured as a standard program, with a 6 month commitment requirement to complete one full cycle (additional cycles are possible if necessary). Emotion Regulation is the next module!

Living with a chronic illness is hard—really hard.
It’s not just about managing symptoms; it’s about managing everything else that comes with it: the emotions, the routines, the burnout.

Struggling with medical adherence? You’re not alone. Stress, frustration, grief, or feeling overwhelmed can all get in the way of sticking to treatment plans.

In my previous position at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center I worked with many children, adolescents and parents on navigating CMI. Many of my patients struggled with adhering to their diabetes care or following through with medical recommendations. At times, their non adherence became life-threatening, which prompted their medical team to pursue medically-informed mental health providers.

As a clinical psychologist, I want to be able to consult with your broader medical team to give you the best possible care. If you or your loved one is struggling with navigating this new world post-news of a CMI, you’re not alone and it’s okay if you don’t have the answers.
